Freezing, storing food,
making ice cubes
Defrosting
At -18 °C fish, sausage, ready meals and
cakes and pastries can be stored for up to
4 months, cheese, poultry and meat up to
6 months, and vegetables and fruit up to
8 months.
Frozen-food calendar
Fig ® (not all models)
To avoed the quality of the frozen food being
diminished, it is important that the allowable
storage duration that the allowable storage
duration is not exceded. The storage
duration depends on the type of the frozen
food. The values next to the symbols
represent the permissible storage duration
for the respective frozen food in months. In
the are case of oven-ready frozen meals
which are available in stores, the production
date or the “Bst Before” date should be
observed.
Defrosting frozen foods
Depending on the type of food and intended
use, frozen products can be defrosted:
- At room temperature,
- In the refrigerator,
- In an electric oven,
- With/without hot-air fan,
- In a microwave.
Defrosted meat and fish which has risen
above +3 °C for no more than one day (other
defrosted food for no more than three days)
may be refrozen.
No longer store the frozen produce for the
max. storage period.
Refrigerator compartment
The refrigerator compartment defrosts fully
automatically. The condensation is
conveyed down the drainage channel
(Fig. ®/B) to the refrigerating unit where it
evaporates. To ensure that the condensation
flow is not obstructed, always keep the
drainage channel and drain hole clean.
Defrosting the freezer
compartment
The freezer compartment does not
defrost automatically, as the frozen food
must not thaw. A thick layer of hoarfrost
or ice will impair refrigeration of the frozen
food and increase power consumption.
NEVER scrape off hoarfrost or ice with a
knife, as the freezer-compartment
evaporator could be punctured.
Spurting refrigerant may cause eye injuries
or ignite.
If the freezer compartment is covered in
thick ice, defrost.
Proceed as follows:
Remove the frozen food, wrap in
newspaper and store in a cool location.
Remove the mains plug.
Leave the door open, wipe up the
condensation with a cloth or sponge.
Dry the freezer compartment, switch ON
the appliance again and re-insert the
frozen food.
